Central Loses Slugfest & DGS 15-14!

Hinsdale Central staged a dramatic come from behind 5th inning by scoring 10 runs in the frame, but in the end came up one run short in the loss to Downers Grove South.

It was a rocky start for the Red devils who gave up 9 runs in the first two innings of play. Central scored 1 in the second as Matt Sliter singled, John Ellis walked and Cooper Travis added an RBI single to score Sliter. Hinsdale added 3 runs in the 4th inning with 2 outs as Ellis doubled and scored on an RBI single from Travis. jack Helwig added an RBI double plating Travis and Mac Burridge singled allowing Hellwig to tally the 3rd run of the inning bringing the score to 11-4.

Central continued to pound the ball as Alex Tufano and Sliter led off the 5th with a pair of singles. Pat Foley took one for the team and loaded up the bases. Peter Marquardt came to the plate and belted a double scoring 2 runs. Travis added an RBI double and Hellwig followed with a single to load up the bases again. Burridge was hit by a pitch to walk in Foley. Matt Anderson doubled to score 2 runs and Tufano added a sac fly to plate Burridge and the Red Devils tied the score at 11. But central wasn't finished yet! Sliter laced a double, Foley reached on a mishandled ball and Marquardt ripped another double to score the 10th run of the inning and give Hinsdale a 14-11 lead, their first of the day.

Unfortunately, DGS plated 4 runs in the 5th inning on 4 hits and 2 errors to regain the lead for good. Jack Hellwig, legged out a triple in the 6th, but the tying run was left stranded on 3rd base.

Chris Bobo pitched 11/3 innings allowing 8 runs on 4 hits with 2 walks and 1 hit batter.

Carson Elmore tossed 31/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 9 hits with 2 walks and 2 strike-outs.

Drew Kornak threw 11/3 giving up 1 hit and striking out 2.
