NO FOOLING-RED DEVILS BEAT #10
BROTHER RICE!
John Spacapan took the mound for
the Red Devils against Brother
Rice on a warm but windy April
Fools day! He wasn’t fooling as
he went 4 strong innings in the
outing allowing 4 runs on 4 hits
with 5 walks, 1 hit batter and 2
punch-outs.
Central struck first as Jack
Hellwig, Alex Tufano and Pat
Foley walked to load the bases
and Matt Sliter took one for the
team to put the Red Devils ahead
1-0.
The Crusaders loaded up the
bases in the bottom of the first
but Spacapan got the batter to
fly out to end the threat.
In the second, Jacques Camalick
drew a walk, Hellwig singled and
Anderson reached on a drop third
strike. Tufano reached on an
error allowing Camalick and
Hellwig to score. Foley singled
to plate Anderson and put
Central up 4-0. The Crusaders
put 3 on the board in the bottom
of the 2nd to pull within 1 run.
In the 3rd, Peter Marquardt
reached on an error, stole 2nd
and scored on an RBI double by
Hellwig. The Crusaders also
plated 1 in the 3rd.
Will Pahos came on in relief in
the 5th. Hellwig led off the 6th
with a single, Mac Burridge
walked and Anderson doubled
scoring Hellwig and Burridge
crossed home plate on a mis-played
ball in right field. Sliter
torched a double to left center
field plating Anderson and
giving Central an 8-4 lead.
Brother Rice loaded the bases in
the bottom of the 6th but
Central turned a double play to
end the inning. Pahos finished
off the Crusaders in the 7th for
the win.
In 3 innings of work, Pahos
didn’t allow a run on 1 hit with
2 walks and 4 punchouts.
It was a strong performance by
the Red Devils pitching staff
along with solid defense.
