Red Devils Win
Opener!
It was a great opening day for
the Red Devils who coasted to a
15-7 win over Oak Lawn. Coach
Cronin had the team ready as the
pitching was strong and the
offensive exploded with 17 hits.
After Oak Lawn scored one run in
the top of the first inning,
Central tied the game in the
bottom of the first as Matt
Timmermann beat out an infield
single, stole second base, moved
to third on a wild pitch and
then scored on a sacrifice fly
by Tom Bieber. In the second,
the Red Devils blew open the
game with a five spot. Jay
Richards started the inning with
a single, Ben Weed Walked and
Jack Fuller singled to load the
bases. Timmermann singled to
left knocking in 2 runs. Sam
Lucente singled to load the
bases. Mike Fikaris singled to
center scoring two more runs.
Lucente scored the fifth run on
a ground out by Sam Burnett.
In the third inning, Hinsdale
added another 5 runs making
extending the lead to 11-2.
Richards again started the
onslaught with a single, Weed
singled and Fuller walked to
load the bases again.
Timmermann’s fielder’s choice
scored another run and then
Lucente singled driving in 2
runs. Fikaris singled to load
the bases when Tommy Delzenero
singled to center added two more
runs.
Coach Cronin substituted most of
the starters but the offense did
not slow down. They added 4 more
runs over the last 3 innings on
hits from Garrett Knecht (3
singles), Alex Georgelos (2
doubles), and Eric Gnippe
(single).
Oak Lawn managed to add a few
more runs but the Red Devils
were too much. On the bump for
Hinsdale was starter Bieber (3
innings, 1 hit, 4 walks, 5
strikeouts, 2 runs), Luke
Rafferty (2/3 inning, 2 hits, 2
walks, 2 strikeouts, 2 runs),
Michael Huebner (2 1/3 innings,
4 hits, 1 walk, 1 HBP, 3
