Marquardt Closes Out The
Hornets!
The Hornets of Hinsdale South
scored in the top of the first
inning of the cross-town classic
on a windy Friday night at
Benedictine University. Central
tied it up in the bottom of the
second as Charlie Herr doubled
and Ryan Connelly drove him in
with an RBI single. Hinsdale
South racked up 3 runs in the
third to take a 4-1 lead.
Central tied it up in the bottom
of the third as Phil Hurst
reached base, Connor Marrero
singled and Stevo Kraynak bunted
and reached base. A throwing
error allowed Hurst to score and
advanced the runners into
scoring position. Josh Camalick
tied the game at 4-4 with a 2
run single to right field.
Carson Elmore came in to pitch
with 2 outs in the 5th
to shut down the Hornet threat.
Central took the lead for good
in the 5th when
Camalick singled and Herr laid
down a sac bunt to advance the
runner to 2nd. A
passed ball allowed Camalick to
reach 3rd and score
on an RBI single up the middle
by Connelly. The Devils added
an insurance run in the 6th
when Hurst reached base, stole 2nd
and advanced to 3rd
on a sac bunt by Marrero. Stevo
Kraynak hit a sac fly to score
Hurst and give Central a 6-4
lead. In the 7th,
the Hornets led off the inning
with 2 singles. Peter Marquardt
came in to pitch and got 2 quick
outs. He walked the next batter
to load the bases. Pitching to
the #5 hitter, Marquardt induced
a ground ball and sealed the win
as Kraynak made a nice grab in
the hole and threw out the
runner at first!
Rob Bellusci started the game
and went 4 2/3 innings allowing
4 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits,
3 walks and 6 punch outs.
Carson Elmore threw 1 1/3
innings allowing 2 hits and
striking out 2.
Peter Marquardt pitched 1 inning
allowing 1 walk to earn the
