Central’s Late Comeback Falls
Short!
The sun was shining as the Red
Devils traveled to Lyons
Township High School for the
first conference double-header
of the season!
The Lions jumped out to an early
lead with a 2-run homer in the
bottom of the first
inning. Catcher Ryan Connelly
had a nice pick-off at 1st
base for Hinsdale. Second
baseman Matt Anderson hit a one
out double in the top of the 2nd
but was left on base. LT
answered by adding 3 more runs
in the bottom of the second
inning and extended their lead
to 5-0.
Third baseman Josh Camalick led
off the 4th inning
with a solo home run over the
center field wall to put the Red
Devils on the board. Anderson
and Rob Bellusci added a single
and Jason McClain had an RBI
ground out to score
Anderson. The 5th
inning remained scoreless and
pitcher Will Pahos helped
himself out by picking off a
base runner at 1st. The
Red Devils added a run in the 6th
when DH Alex Tufano singled, and
speedy pinch runner Sean O’Grady
stole 2nd. Jack
Hellwig drew a walk, and both
runners advanced to scoring
position on a passed ball.
Bellusci belted a sac fly to
right center field to score
O’Grady. The Lions added a run
in the 6th making the
score 6-3.
In the 7th inning,
the Devils staged a dramatic
comeback as Ryan Connelly and
Connor Marrero singled and Stevo
Kraynak walked to load the
bases. Camalick belted a double
to right center field allowing
Connelly and Marrero to cross
home plate and bring the Red
Devils within 1 run. Anderson
was intentionally walked to load
up the bases again but Hinsdale
fell short and all runners were
left stranded.
Will Pahos threw 5 innings
allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 6
hits with 1 walk, 1 hit batter
and 6 punch-outs.
Carson Elmore tossed 2/3 of an
inning allowing 1 run on 1 hit
with a walk. Peter Marquardt
finished the last out of the
inning.
