Gilbert Stifles Hilltoppers on
the Mound
After throwing an indifferent
inning the previous evening,
Jack Gilbert stepped on the
mound for Hinsdale and looked
like a different pitcher. After
giving up two unearned runs in
the first Gilbert settled down
and shut Glenbard West down with
his curveball
and constant change of speed,
throwing only 89 pitches over
seven innings.
The speedy Phil Zarcone got the
offence going with a nice bunt
single in the second. He
eventually scored when Gilbert
struck out but reached base on a
dropped third strike. The
Devils added more runs in the
third after Spacapan singled and
Daspin knocked him in. John
Olson and Ryan Daspin also
singled nicely and the letter
extended Hinsdale’s lead,
scoring on an overthrow. A
Bobo double and RBI from Foley
added another in the fourth and
that was basically the game.
Pitching dominated there on out
and Hinsdale completed as very
satisfying win. |
