Hinsdale Win Series Over Trojans
After splitting two games the
previous Saturday, Hinsdale took
the series over Downers North
with a good all round team
performance.
Downers got off to a good start
in the first inning off the
pitching of Ryan Daspin.
However Hinsdale replied with
what has become their trademark,
a single from Spacapan, knocked
in by Foley.
Meanwhile Daspin really began to
find his firepower and rhythm
for Hinsdale and limited DG to
one more run (unearned) during
his five innings on the
mound. This was his first
extended outing for two years
after shoulder surgery and once
he settled he looked very
impressive. The Devil’s offence
went to work on the Downer’s
pitching and took full advantage
of errors and walks, with John
Olson once again looking
impressive with the bat. His RBI
double in the fifth really blew
the game open and it looked as
if the Trojan’s fate was
sealed.
However, DG rallied in the sixth
when Jack Gilbert replaced
Daspin on the mound. The
normally reliable Gilbert
couldn’t get his curve ball down
and this cost Hinsdale three
runs. Thankfully a lead of
double by Bobo in the bottom of
the sixth and the usual RBI from
Foley sparked a three run inning
for Hinsdale. It turned out they
needed this insurance as Downers
continued to press hitting a
three run homer in the seventh
off of Jared Kreger, who came in
as closer.
A nail biting finish
ensued. This involving some
gamesmanship by the DG coach and
humorous interaction between
spectators, umpire and coaches
all of whom were trying to
establish the score. As it
turned out it didn’t matter.
Hinsdale hung on and bagged
another valuable Conference win. |
