A Perfect End to a Perfect
Season (Well Almost)
Who could ask for more on our
last game of the season? Blue
skies, mid 70’s, the Chicago
skyline over center field and a
miniature version of the Grand
Canyon behind home plate. The
perfect setting.
Hinsdale were certainly slow off
the mark in this game with Matt
Owen recording the only hit for
the Devils through two innings.
Similarly on the defensive side,
Jack Gilbert, returning to the
Hinsdale line up after two weeks
out, showed some rustiness,
walking the first three Wolfpack
hitters he faced. However,
having kicked and scraped the
mound to his liking, he managed
to get out of the jam giving up
just two runs. From this point
on, Gilbert seemed to find his
customary rhythm and pitched
pretty well for another three
innings.
Meanwhile, Hinsdale clawed their
way back into the game. Jacques
Camalick batting for the first
time this season after an
extended period on the DL,
cracked a triple to lead off the
third. This was followed by an
RBI double to right from Chris
Bobo and a single from Pat
Foley, moving Bobo to third.
Ryan Daspin then hit another RBI
double scoring Bobo and a John
Olson single scored Daspin. 3-2
Devils.
In the fourth, another Camalick
triple scored Phil Zarcone who
had walked. The Wolfpack
responded with a run in the
bottom of the fourth but that
was cancelled out when Daspin
stole home in the fifth, thanks
to Sean Houlihan drawing a throw
to second on a steal.
From this point on there was
only one team in it.
Scorekeepers were kept busy as
the Hinsdale coaches introduced
every roster member into the
game for a final curtain call on
the season. The crowd were kept
entertained by every fly ball
that found its way onto
Roosevelt Road. Miraculously
the sound of ball on metal or
the screech of car brakes was
never heard.
Jared Kreger took over for
Hinsdale on the mound and apart
from seeing one pitch dispatched
350ft for a 2 run homer, he
threw very well. Hinsdale added
another 4 runs themselves in the
last two innings thanks to a
Daspin 2RBI single and a 2 run
infield HR from Houlihan.
And so another HC Sophomore
season has come to an end.
Thanks to all of you who have
read my ramblings and thanks for
the words of encouragement.
Thanks most of all to the team
and the coaches who have kept me
and the other parents
entertained for the last two
months.
Have a happy, healthy and safe
summer. GO DEVILS! |
