Devils Prove Comfortable Prey
for Leyden Eagles
On a better day Central would
have almost certainly given
Leyden a closer game. However
this wasn’t a better day.
Pat Foley, the regular catcher
for Hinsdale, started for the
Devils and pitched well, giving
up just one run in his first 4
innings. Back to back hits from
CF Phil Zarcone and Mike DeSalle
led off the third for Hinsdale
and follow up hitting from their
team mates led to 3 runs being
produced.
The Eagles levelled the score in
the fifth, Foley’s final
inning. In the sixth, he was
replaced by Phil Zarcone, not a
regular pitcher and somewhat of
an experiment by the Devil’s
coaches. Unfortunately, Zarcone
didn’t really have time to
settle into his new role and was
soon replaced by relief pitcher
Jared Kreger. Leyden started to
hit and this combined with
errors cost the Devils 4 quick
runs and essentially the game.
Leyden increased the lead in the
seventh off of the pitching of
closer Ryan Daspin. Hinsdale’s
hitting was disappointing
throughout and the Devils wasted
a number of scoring
opportunities. Let’s hope their
form improves before the visit
of York. |
