Devils beat Warriors
Hinsdale Central got a must win
against the Willowbrook Warriors
10-3 led by strong pitching,
timely hitting and solid
defense. It snapped a 7 game
losing streak.
On the bump, Michael Fikaris led
the pitching staff by going 4
strong innings with Danny
Callahan and Jay Richards
finishing up the game. The
combined stats for the pitchers
were 9 strikeouts, one walk and
one hit batter. It was one of
the best pitching performances
of the year for the Devils.
The Devils got on the board in
the first via the walk. Matt
Timmermann led off with a walk,
took second on a wild pitch,
stole third and then came home
on a wild throw to third. Jack
Fuller walked, moved over to
second on a single by Sam
Lucente, Fikaris walked to load
the bases and Fuller scored on a
wild pitch.
In the second, Peter Foley
doubled and scored on a single
by Timmermann.
In the third, Fikaris singled,
Tom Bieber walked, Richards
singled scoring Fikaris. An
error scored Bieber and Richards
scored on a fielder's choice by
Foley.
The Devils blew the game open in
the 6th scoring 4 runs. Luke
Rafferty led off with a single,
Garrett Knecht and Timmermann
walked to load the bases.
Lucente had a big double
clearing the bases. Lucente
scored on a wild pitch.
Foley added a single in the 7th
but was stranded.
The defensive web gem was by
Matt Timmermann making a
marvelous diving catch in right
center field running full speed
from left center stretched out
making the catch to end the
