Hornets Sting Devils
On a nice day for baseball, the
Devils were looking to bounce
back from their loss yesterday
against our rival to the south.
Unfortunately, the result was
not favorable as the Devils lost
5-2 against Hinsdale South.
South jumped on top in the first
inning scoring 3 runs as the
Devils committed 3 costly
errors. In the bottom half,
Central got on the board as Matt
Timmermann opened up with a
single. He stole second and
third and scored when Luke
Rafferty bombed a double to left
center.
In the second, Central scored
again when Tom Bieber struck out
but took first on a pass ball.
South committed a couple of
errors allowing Bieber to touch
all of the bases to score. It
was the last run the Devils
could muster the rest of the
game.
The Devils tried to get
something going in the 4th when
Peter Foley and Garrett Knecht
had back-to-back singles and
again in the 6th when they
loaded the bases on hits from
Jay Richards and Foley but both
rallies fell short.
It was as strong outing by the
Devils pitchers. Michael Huebner
started on the bump allowing 3
runs as his teammates made 3
errors. He allowed 3 hits, one
walk but struck out the
side. Neal Mallon had a
excellent outing pitching 3
strong innings allowing one run
on 2 hits, 2 walks, one hit
batter with one strikeout.
Danny Callahan pitched one
strong inning facing 4 batters
striking out one and walking
one. Connor Driscoll had a
strong inning as well facing 5
batters with 2 strikeouts. Jay
Richards closed out the game
allowing one run on an excellent
suicide squeeze bunt by
South. He allowed 2 hits while
striking out one.
The Devils play Downers Grove
North tomorrow at home. |
