HINSDALE CENTRAL RED DEVILS BASEBALL 2007
Devils' Brennan makes pitcher work

April 26, 2007

One of the Hinsdale Central baseball team's at-bats that impressed coach Tom Dorrance the most during Saturday's doubleheader with Lyons Township resulted in a ground out.

Junior first baseman and No. 2 hitter Rich Brennan battled for 13 pitches in the bottom of the first inning against LT starter Brian Lorenz, fouling off seven two-strike pitches, before grounding out to short. Leadoff hitter Kris Leksas also grounded out to short on five pitches after fighting off a 1-and-2 count.

"I tell the guys I'm kind of a nerd, but that stuff excites me more than a first-pitch home run," Dorrance said. "I just love that, when you make a pitcher throw. Even though nobody's on base, you made the kid throw 18 pitches, it's still the first inning and he's still throwing."

"I was seeing the ball well," Brennan said. "I just got under a few of those pitches, but I was just trying to do my job, trying to get on any way I could. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, but sometimes things don't go your way."
