Red Devils Get Just Their Desserts

As we were told as youngsters, save your dessert for last or you will spoil your appetite.  “Sorry Mom, this time we are eating dessert first”.

The Devils held York to no runs in the top of the seventh.  With a cleansed palate, the Devils in their highly unrecommended, yet customary way, proceeded to rally late in the contest. Rich Brennan got things going with a single. Kris Leksas pinch ran for Brennan. Brett Suchy drew a walk.  Jared White ripped a double to left scoring Leksas and Suchy. Jack Dinado followed by pounding a two run home run to right.  The York coach then came out of the dugout faster than a waiter from a burning kitchen to replace his pitcher.  Jason McClain greeted the fresh arm with a single.  Eric Wroble launched a two run bomb to center to bring the Devils to within four.  However, it was not enough as the Red Devils fell to York 10-6.

Garrett “The Chef” Cook started on the mound for the Devils.  Garrett was serving some sizzling fast balls, seasoned sliders and some choice curves – all with robust precision.  However, Hinsdale struggled to support the Junior’s effort as York peppered the Devils into an assortment of defensive miscues.

Offensively, the Red Devils threatened York in each inning but could not capitalize.  In the first, Carl Madej singled to start the game but was thrown out stealing.  Suchy singled.  In the second, McClain singled and Taylor Weil followed suit.  This was not enough and the Devils were held scoreless.  With Cook’s pitch count climbing, Coach Dorrance sensed he was done after two innings and brought in Bill Rush with the Devils down by five.

Rush’s support cast did not treat him any differently. York sprinkled a few hits off Rush through the balance of the game yet miscues continued to dig a deeper hole for the Devils.  Suchy, Dinardo and McClain provided singles in the third, fourth and fifth innings respectively yet this was far from enough to keep the Devils competitive today.
