Dukes: A Real Hazard
Hinsdale’s Duke of Hurl, Kasey Ourada, pitched a valiant game giving up just four hits yet the Devil’s failed to provide enough offensive fire power to stop York. The 2-1 loss was Hinsdale’s first WSC Silver Conference loss.
The extended layoff continues to haunt the Devils. With 6 games remaining this week, Devils fans are hopeful that timing and execution will resurface and that the elements will allow play.
The Devils took the first inning lead as Carl Madej, who reached on an error to start the game, eventually scored on a passed ball as the York pitcher refused to offer clean-up hitter, Jack Dinardo, anything to hit. The high outside fastball got away and despite the short backstop area, Madej scampered down the line and beat the play at the plate. Dinardo walked on four pitches, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. The Devils could not bring him home and the Dukes dodged a big one. York pitching settled down after the choppy first and combined to allow the visiting Red Devils just four hits on the day.
The Devils had sporadic opportunities, however. In the second, Eric Wroble led off with a single but was left stranded. With one out in the third, Rich Brennan doubled yet the Devils couldn’t bring him home. In the sixth, with one out, Brett Suchy singled and stole second and was left stranded. With one out in the seventh and York up 2-1, the Devils tried to mount a rally. With two outs, Jared White hit a shot which handcuffed the second baseman allowing White to reach first. Brock Piche came in to run. Kris Leksas followed with a double to right. With runners at second and third, York pulled their starter. The Duke reliever threw one pitch resulting in a fly to center field which put an end to the Devil rally and the game. |
