DEVILS RALLY BUT TO LITTLE TO LATE
Starting pitcher Marc Weimer found himself in trouble early in the first, walking his first two batters faced. He was able to stop Glenbards assult in the first with a popout, a strike out and a ground out. In the second inning Marc found himself in trouble early again walking his first three batters faced. Coach Dorrance gave the ball to Matt Murray to help out Weimer but Glenbard scored one run on the three walks with an error. In the third, Glenbard with two men on and two outs was shut down by an extraordinary diving catch by left fielder Kris Leksas. With an extremely well hit ball that seemed to hang in the air for minutes, Leksas made the run saving grab. Glenbard then scored their second run in the fourth. With a man reaching first on an error and then advancing to third on a bunt they scored on a ground-out to first.
With no official hits by either team until the sixth inning, Hinsdale had their first hit of the day from a lead-off double by Jared White. Rich Brennan followed on with a walk. Next on was Brett Suchy with a single hit to right field, Coach Dorrance trying to make something happen send Jared home but was thrown out from an unexpected frozen rope from the right fielder. With two on and two outs the devils couldn’t squeeze out any runs. With Hinsdale down by two, Glenbard also had their first hit of the day with a lead-off double, and two singles to add on two more runs.
In the last inning, Glenbard’s pitcher on his way to a complete game, started the inning by hitting Eric Wroble. Next up was Jason McClain who hit a double down the right field line. At this point Glenbard’s coach looking a little frazzled called time out to talk with his pitcher who came back with a strike out. With one out, Grant Slesser hit a single to bring in the first Hinsdale RBI. Matt Meyer then hit in the second RBI on a fielders choice. Jared White up to bat, with the pitcher starting to show signs of fatigue and knowing that his last at bat was a double, hits Jared in the leg sending him to first. Two men on, two outs, the Devils ended their rally to come up two short and end their winning streak.
