Duffy Throws 3 Hitter As Central Powers Out 3 Homers!
Pitcher John Duffy threw 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and 7 strike-outs in the shutout victory over Hinsdale South. Duffy kept the South hitters off balance with great off speed pitches and a live fastball.
Scottie Zender got Central on the board in the bottom of the 1st with a long ball over the right field fence. In the 2nd, Rob Bellusci reached base on a bad hop to the short stop and Ryan Connelly also reached base. Garrett Kawa hit a hard RBI single up the middle to score Bellusci and Richie Zajeski added a 2 run double to bring Connelly and Kawa home. Connor Marrero singled scoring Zajeski and Zender added a single in the 4 run inning. South threatened in the top of the 3rd with bases loaded, but Duffy struck out the batter to close out the inning.
Josh Camalick started off the 3rd with a line drive double to right center field followed by Bellusci who hit an RBI double to left center scoring Camalick. Connnelly powered an RBI double down the 3rd base line scoring Bellusci which gave Central a 7-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, Zender sent his second ball over the right field fence but Central wasn’t finished yet. The game ended in the bottom of the 5th as the Red Devils continued to pound the Hornets pitchers. Bellusci singled but got caught stealing 2nd. David Kiyosaki hit a rocket up the middle and Connelly took 1st after being hit by a pitch. Garrett Kawa reached base allowing Kiyosaki to cross home plate. Richie Zajeski finished off the Hornets with a walk-off 3 run homer over the right center field fence to give Central a 12-0 shutout victory over their rivals.
