Hitting Is Contagious For Central
Central’s bats heated up as the temperatures rose into the mid 60’s. Everyone in the line up contributed at least 1 hit as the Red Devils totaled 14 hits in the victory. York got on the board with a 2 spot in the top of the first inning. Central responded with a single by Connor Marrero who stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a single by Scottie Zender, and scored on an RBI ground out by Ryan Connelly. David Kiyosaki opened up the 2nd inning with a single, stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a single by Brendan Sullivan and scored on a bunt single by Charlie Herr. Rob Bellusci advanced the runners to 2nd and 3rd on a bunt followed by an RBI bunt single from Richie Zajeski scoring Sullivan. Marrero added a sacrifice fly to bring Herr across the plate for the 3rd run of the inning. The third inning was scoreless and featured a double play fielded by Garrett Kawa to Josh Camalick to Zender. Hinsdale really heated up in the 4th inning putting 5 on the board beginning with a double by Sullivan and singles by Herr and Bellusci. Sullivan stole home on an overthrow to 2nd base and Zajeski added an RBI sac bunt to score Herr. Marrero laid down a bunt single to score Bellusci and Zender singled scoring Marrero. Connelly doubled and Camalick followed with an RBI double scoring Zender. The Dukes of York picked up one in the 5th and 6th but the game ended in the 7th when York doubled to the wall, tried to stretch it into a triple and got thrown out at 3rd on a relay from Bellusci to Camalick to Kiyosaki.
Charlie Herr pitched a complete game allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, 5 walks, and punched out 6 batters for the victory. Overall the Red Devils had a good day offensively and defensively behind a solid pitching performance form Herr.
