Central Comes Up Short Against York
The Red Devils traveled to Elmhurst on a blustery April afternoon to face the Dukes in the second game of the conference match-up. York struck first by scoring 2 runs despite a couple of nice defensive plays by Josh Camalick’s throw to Ryan Connelly to get the out at home, and a diving catch in right field by Connor Marrero to end the inning. David Kiyosaki led off the 2nd inning with a walk, advanced to 3rd on a single by Rob Bellusci and scored on an overthrow to third base. Richie Zajeski drove in Bellusci with an RBI single followed by a single by Garrett Kawa and an RBI single from Marrero to take a 3-2 lead. York tied it up in the 2nd and Central answered in the 3rd when Connelly scored on an RBI single by Camalick. The Red Devils held York scoreless in the 3rd inning highlighted by a strike em out- throw em out double play. York tied it up in the 4th, took the lead in the 5th and never looked back.
Central threatened a comeback in the 7th when Charlie Herr and Scottie Zender reached base to lead off the inning. Connelly drove in Herr with an RBI single but Central came up short and were unable to bring the other runners home.
Rob Bellusci pitched 4 innings allowing 4 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Scottie Zender pitched 2 innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
