York’s Pitching Shuts Down Central’s Offense
Despite sunshine and fair weather conditions on our home field, the Red Devil offense could only muster up 3 hits while totaling 13 strike-outs on the day against solid pitching by our opponents. York scored 7 runs in the first 3 innings on 5 hits and a few errors. Connor Marrero led off the 3rd inning with a double to right center field and reached 3rd on a passed ball, but Central was unable to bring him home. Pitcher Scott Anderko held the Dukes scoreless in the 4th and 5th inning. The Red Devils threatened to come back in the 5th inning when Connor Marrero and Robbie Bellusci walked and Scott Anderko singled to load the bases. Marrero scored on a wild pitch and slugger Ryan Connelly came to the plate and smashed a 3 run homer over the left center field fence to clear the bases and close the gap to 7-4. That’s all the Red Devils could do offensively on the day and York added 1 run in the 6th and 2 in the 7th to pull away for the victory. Anderko pitched 4 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and 5 strike-outs. David Kiyosaki pitched 2 innings allowing 4 runs on 2 hits, 2 walks and 1 strike out. Scottie Zender threw 1 inning allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 1 strike out. The Red Devils will have the opportunity to even the series Tuesday, April 16, at York High School.
