Hinsdale Central Sweeps Willowbrook In 3 Game Series!
The Red Devils took the third and final game in the series against the Warriors of Willowbrook High School by the score of 10-6. Willowbrook got on the board in the top of the 1st with 2 runs. Connor Marrero started off the bottom of the 1st inning with a single, followed by Josh Camalick who reached on an error allowing Marrero to score on the overthrow. Scottie Zender singled and Charlie Herr hit into a fielder’s choice which scored Camalick. Willowbrook took a 4-2 lead in the top of the 2nd, but the Red Devils answered with 3 runs. Mike Parker and Mike Rogowski hit back to back doubles for the first run and Sean O’Grady drove in Rogowski with an RBI single. O’Grady stole 2nd and scored on a single by Marrero. With the game tied up at 5 in the bottom of the 3rd, Hinsdale pulled ahead for good with a 4 run rally beginning with a single by Herr who stole 2nd and a bunt single by Scott Anderko. Herr scored on an overthrow, O’Grady got a free pass to 1st, stole 2nd and Anderko scored on a passed ball. Marrero was also issued a base on balls and Camalick drove in O’Grady and Marrero with a 2 run single up the middle. Willowbrook added 1 run in the 5th inning. Central added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI double by Camalick scoring Marrero who reached base on a walk.
Mike Parker pitched 5 innings allowing 7 hits, 1 walk, 6 runs {4 ER} and 3 strikeouts.
John Duffy closed out the game pitching 2 innings allowing 1 hit while striking out 3.
