Zender Homers, Devils Win 7-2 over Willowbrook!
The Red Devils rebounded to score a decisive victory over the Warriors of Willowbrook High School despite frigid mid forty degree temperatures.
Both teams were scoreless in the first inning. Willowbrook scored 1 in the second to take an early lead. Central answered with 2 runs beginning with singles by Brendan Sullivan and Mike Parker. Mike Rogowski hit an RBI groundout to score Sullivan and Scott Anderko laid down a sac bunt to bring Parker home. Central added 2 more runs in the 3rd when David Kiyosaki walked, stole 2nd, was awarded 3rd on a balk by the pitcher and stole home on a passed ball. Zender was patient at the plate and was issued a free pass to 1st base. He reached 2nd on a wild pitch and Sullivan singled down the left field line to score Zender and give the Devils a 4-1 lead. John Duffy pitched 4 solid innings allowing only 1 run on 5 hits, 1 walk and 7 strike-outs
Willowbrook added 1 run in the 5th but the Red Devils weren’t finished yet. Connor Marrero singled, Kiyosaki walked and Scottie Zender hit a 3-run bomb over the left center field fence to take a 7-2 lead. Hinsdale held Willowbrook scoreless in the 6th and 7th inning behind the pitching of Mike Rogowski who allowed 1 run on 2 hits, 2 walks and 5 strike-outs in 3 innings of work.
