Lightning Strikes -- Red Devils Bolt to Sweep OPRF!
The Red Devils swept OPRF in Oak Park in the 3rd game of the series by scoring 8 runs in the 6th inning following a half hour rain delay. Central was held scoreless in the first 5 innings of play. Oak Park jumped on the board in the 1st inning with a pair of doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams battled through the 5th with the Huskies still on top. The rain started and lightening flashed forcing a game delay. The Red Devils came back in the top of the 6th beginning with a walk by Josh Camalick. Sean O’Grady singled and Rob Bellusci added an RBI single to score Camalick and tie the game at 1-1. Charlie Herr reached base and Ryan Connelly took one for the team with the bases loaded to bring Bellusci across home plate. Richie Zajeski drove home 2 with a double down the left field line scoring David Kiyosaki and Herr. Connor Marrero walked and Scottie Zender had an RBI single scoring Connelly. Camalick singled for 2 RBI’s scoring Zajeski and Marrero. O’Grady’s RBI single scored Zajeski for an 8-1 Red Devil lead. The Huskies had a single and 2 doubles in the bottom of the 6th inning to close the gap to 8-3 but that would be the end of the scoring for the day as Central held on for the win!
David Kiyosaki pitched 2 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Rob Bellusci threw the final 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 punch-outs. Catcher Ryan Connelly did a great job behind the plate in tough weather conditions.
