Central TOPS Hilltoppers!
Hinsdale Central started off the 3 game series against the Glenbard West Hilltoppers with a very important conference victory. The Red Devils delivered a solid performance both offensively and defensively which was led by the stellar pitching performances of David Kiyosaki and Rob Bellusci. Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning. In the top of the second, Central got on the board first with an RBI double by Bellusci just over the left fielder scoring Kiyosaki who had reached base. The Red Devils added another run in the 3rd beginning with back to back 2-out walks to Connor Marrero and Josh Camalick. Scottie Zender drove in Marrero on a single to right field for a 2-0 lead. Glenbard West responded with 2 runs in the 4th inning to tie it up. Sean O’Grady led off the 5th with a walk but got thrown out at 2nd on a bunt by Richie Zajeski. Marrero doubled scoring Zajeski from1st followed by a single to left field by Camalick advancing Marrero to 3rd. Zender singled up the middle scoring Marrero and Kiyosaki smashed a single to left center scoring Camalick. The 3 run rally gave Central the lead for good as Glenbard West was unable to score in the final 3 innings.
Kiyosaki pitched 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Bellusci threw 2 innings in relief allowing 1 hit with 4 strikeouts.
