Zender Shuts Out Glenbard West!
Scottie Zender pitched a complete game shut out allowing only 6 hits, 1 walk and 2 punch outs against the Hilltoppers. Both teams were held scoreless in the first 4 innings of play which were dominated by great pitching and defense. Central threatened in the 2nd when Charlie Herr singled and Rob Bellusci was issued a free pass to first base but both were left stranded. The Red Devils got on the board in the 5th inning when Bellusci started off with a single to left field followed by a walk to Ryan Connelly. Brendan Sullivan advanced the runners to 2nd and 3rd on a perfect sac bunt. Connor Marrero drove in the games first run with a clutch 2-out single.
In the 6th inning, Zender started the 2-run rally with a single, followed by a laser RBI double down the left field line by Charlie Herr who was a perfect 3 for 3 in the game. Connelly reached base allowing Herr to score the 3rd and final run of the day. Herr, Marrero and Garrett Kawa were like vacuum cleaners on the right side of the field combining for 14 of the 21 possible outs on a perfect fielding day! Central took 2 from Glenbard West and will be looking for the series sweep on Tuesday.
