EXTRA!  EXTRA!

Red Devil frosh squeak by York in extra innings – twice!

Once again solid defense, timely hitting and some good pitching lead the frosh A team to a nine inning victory over the York Dukes.

Alex Kirk started for the Red Devils and allowed two runs in the first, but settled down and pitched four innings of three run ball.  Stevo Kraynak pitched the fifth and sixth, letting in one run.  Jason Rafferty entered the game in the seventh and held York scoreless through three (his off speed and breaking stuff was really working and kept the Dukes off balance).

On offense the Red Devils collected nine hits.  In the second Will Pahos (single) and Zach Studnicka (double) collected RBI’s.  Alex Tufano was two for three with one RBI and an intentional walk in the seventh.  Rafferty also rapped a double into the right field shrubbery in the fourth.

In the bottom of the ninth, Studnicka and Mac Burridge drew consecutive walks and Mike Discipio reached on an error to load the bases.  Kirk drove the first pitch to left center to give the Red Devils the victory.

Defensively the Red Devils were pretty solid, committing only one error.  Burridge got a good jump on a ball to deep left center in the eighth to keep the Dukes down.

The frosh  B team won 8-6 on what first seemed like it would be a blowout.  After two innings, the Red Devils led six to nothing on a couple of big hits by Cooper Travis.  The Dukes tied it up with a big 3rd inning of their own.  After that, both Carson Elmore and the York pitcher were almost unhittable.

The score remained tied until the top of the eighth.  With one out, Nick Tyson singled.  Dylan Lee followed with a single of his own.  The next batter, Victor Twardowski, hit a sac fly, allowing Tyson to score to put the Devils on top.  The team scored one more to go ahead by two.  Travis came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth, shutting the Dukes down with three impressive strikeouts
