Trojans Subdue Devils in Nine
The Hinsdale Red Devil Freshmen lost to Downers Grove North 5-4 in nine innings in the third game of the series at Downers Grove. Hinsdale threatened in the first inning but was unable to score. But in the second the frosh batted around and plated three. Hinsdale’s last run came in the fourth inning when Mike Rogers lead off with a single and was doubled in three batters later by Jack Hellwig. Hinsdale had runners in scoring position in four of the last five innings but could not produce any runs.
Jason Rafferty started for the Red Devils and pitched into the fifth when he was hit in the shin by a line shot. Bruised but not broken is the diagnosis after Xrays at the hospital. Stevo Kraynak came on in relief and pitched the final 4 1/3. All but one of DGN’s runs scored via the long ball. There was a three run shot in the third and then a game ending blast to the top of Mr. Rogers’ car in right to end the game in the ninth.
There were a couple of defensive gems in the game. In the fourth Mac Burrdige reached over the center field fence to rob DGN of a three run homer and end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second and one out Will Pahos turned a nice 5-3 double play to end another Trojan threat.
