Rick Lapinski Freshman Assistant Baseball Coach
Number of years as a coach: Second Year
Current job/position at HC: Educational Services Department
Home: Niles
Education: University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
Sports played: Soccer (through college); Hockey; Baseball
Position: 2B; SS
Best personal sports moment: Hitting the game winning homerun against Evanston during my senior year of high school.
Worst personal sports moment: Getting knocked out cold, and out for the season, on the soccer field half way through my senior year of college in front of 3,000 fans. (I was having an amazing game as well, 1 goal and 1 assist in 20 minutes of play)
Previously coached: Sophomore Boy’s Soccer
How you like to spend your free time (assuming you have any!): I enjoy long walks on the beach, picnics in the park…just kidding. I typically don’t have a lot of free time and when I do, I enjoy skiing, hiking, wakeboarding and basically anything that involves fitness and being outside.
Pets: Maverick, a Siberian Husky
Favorite professional baseball team and/or athlete: Chicago Cubs
Any particular reason why? I was born and raised a Cubs fan.
Favorite professional sports (any sport) moment/game: Real Madrid vs Chivas (Soccer) this past summer at Soldiers Field. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the world’s best soccer team play live.
Any advice for the players: Work hard everyday and make the most of your time. These are the times you will look back and remember.
Any advice for the parents: Don’t put pressure on your own children or others on the team. They WILL make errors, they WILL strike out, they WILL make mistakes on the base paths. They feel bad enough when they make a mistake, that to dwell on it when they leave the field could cause more destruction than good. We are all out here doing our best and just enjoy the fact that they are doing something they love.
