Kurash’s shutout combined with Suchy’s 2 RBI single debunks Andrew’s #7 ranking
Nick Kurash and the Red Devils were ready for payback on the #7 ranked Thunderbolts after an embarrassing loss to Andrew last year. The exclamation mark was 10 strikeouts for Kurash in a complete game, 1 hit, 2-0 victory.
The Red Devils defense was dialed in, backing up Kurash with some impressive, ESPN like plays. In the 4th, with a runner on 1st and one out, an Andrew batter hit to the left center field gap. Toby Adeyemi made a diving catch and proceeded to hit the ground, shoulder first. In pain, he had the where-with-all to toss the ball to Brett Suchy, who threw to Andrew Nicholas to tag out the runner from first to second for a double play to end the inning. In the 5th with an Andrew runner at first, the batter hit a ball to second baseman Drew Bailey, who flipped the ball to Nicholas who riffled it to Sam Katz at first for a double play. In the 6th, with a runner on 1st, with one out, catcher Mark Noth threw out a runner trying to steal second. Next, 3rd baseman Alex Bellusci made an amazing dive to his right, fielded the hit and fired it to first to beat the Andrew runner by 3 steps.
The Devils’ offensive output was in the 1st inning when Adeyemi reached base after being hit by a pitch. Noth on a 1-2 count, fouling the next three pitches, hit a line drive down the right field line for a single, advancing Adeyami to 3rd. Noth stole second with Brett Morse at the plate, but it was Brett Suchy who stepped up and hit a sharp single on a 1-2 count driving in Noth and Adeyemi. Colin Cimala also contributed with a hit in the inning.
