Quirke gets timely K’s, offense comes alive in a 7-6 win

In a last minute thriller, with Hinsdale down 6-5, the Devils offense could not be denied.  Andrew Nicholas started the 7th with a single to right.  Alex Belluschi hit into a fielder’s choice and was moved around the bases with consecutive walks to Brett Suchy, Mark Noth and Brett Morse, to score the tying run.  Collin Cimala stepped to the plate and got behind in the count with two quick strikes.  His determination as a hitter prevailed when he lashed a hit off the left fielder’s glove, pushing the winning run across for a 7-6 final.

Previous scoring came in the 2nd inning, with Morse singling, Cimala, hitting into a fielder’s choice, Drew Bailey walking and Sam Katz driving in a run with a double down the right field line.  Another run scored in the 4th inning when Suchy singled, advanced to second on a ground out by Noth, stole 3rd and scored on Cimala’s single.  In the 5th, 2 runs scored, starting with a Katz single, a Nicholas double and both scored on a Suchy single.  In the 6th, Morse singled, advanced by stealing 2nd, and scored on Bailey’s double down the right field line.

Anthony Fountas started for the Devils and threw 4 innings, striking out 5, and allowing 3 runs on 8 hits.  Many were weak infield dribblers.  Will Lamb pitched in the 5th, striking out 1, walking 3 and giving up 2 hits with 2 runs.  Kevin Quirke came in with bases loaded and proceeded to strike out the next two batters.
