"A strong seventh inning completes uphill climb to victory"

The Red Devils were trying to climb out of a 1st inning 6 – 0 hole for 6 innings, and it wasn’t until an electric 7th inning, that the thought of a victory was possible.  Kevin Quirke had a tough 1st inning, getting behind 6 – 0, but he came back and through the next 4 innings, established his rhythm striking out 5 batters.  Pat Keiser pitched the 6th and part of the 7th, allowing 3 runs striking out 2 batters.  Charlie Thomas then closed out the 7th inning with 2 quick outs.

Offensively Andrew Nicholas had a big day reaching base 4 times.  2 of Nicholas’ hits were home runs, 1 in the first and 1 in the 2nd, a two run shot which scored Drew Bailey who was on base with a single, along with a single and walk. In the third inning Mark Noth hit a solo home run over the right field fence.  But it was in the 7th inning when the offensive momentum took hold. Brett Suchy started the comeback by doubling to left center, followed by Noth who coaxed a walk. Colin Cimala up next, singled to score Suchy with Noth advancing to 3rd.  Brett Morse stepped to the plate and hit a double scoring Noth and Cimala, followed by Alex Bellusci who was walked. Jack Dinardo, came to the plate and hit a clutch single scoring Morse while Bellusci advanced to 3rd.  Bailey up next hit a slow roller, almost getting past the pitcher who was able to field it for an out but it brought in the tying run. Tobi Adeyemi then moved Dinardo to 3rd with a ground out, followed by Nicholas who walked.  That brought up Suchy for the 2nd time in the inning who hit a slow roller to the shortstop who was unable to field it cleanly scoring the winning run and the Devils’ dramatic comeback 10 – 9 victory.
