"Hinsdale Central 06 Regional Champs"
Devils are heating things up going into sectionals...
Emotions ran high for the senior Red Devil players Saturday as it would be the last time they would play on their home field. With that in mind the entire team made the Regional Championship contest count.
The crafty pitching of Kasey Ourada and the clutch hitting of Brett Morse led the Red Devils to their 3rd Regional Baseball Championship in school history. Ourada the amazing junior had a Roger Clemens like attitude on the mound. He dominated the Montini batters by hitting his spots and keeping the batters off balance while striking out 7. Charlie Thomas came in and pitched the seventh inning with two runners on base. Thomas battled through a sac fly and single, and with two out and the tying run at the plate he struck out the best Montini batter for the final out of the game. Thomas captured his 6th save of the season by securing the 5 3 win. Defensively, the Devil’s orchestrated a 6, 4, 3, double play in the 4th with a hit to Andrew Nicholas, who threw to Drew Bailey who threw to Morse to end the inning.
Offensively for the Red Devils, Nicholas got things started in the first inning with a single to center. When the fielder bobbled the ball, Nicholas took second. Tobi Adeyemi laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Nicholas to third. Brett Suchy hit a slow roller to the first baseman to drive in Nicholas for a 1 0 lead.
The excitement ignited in the sixth inning with the score tied 1 1. Bailey started things off with a sharp single to right centerfield. Kris Leksas came in to run for Bailey. With one out, Adeyemi singled to left moving Leksas to second. With two outs, Mark Noth stepped to the plate and on the first pitch was hit by the ball and awarded first base to load the bases. Morse up next, on a 0 1 count hit an outside breaking ball to deep right field. The ball took a curve which made it difficult to field as the right fielder tripped attempting to catch it as the ball bounced away from him. By the time the center fielder reached the ball and threw it in, Morse had raced around the bases for an inside the park grand slam, scoring Leksas, Adeyemi and Noth ahead of him while igniting the huge throng of Red Devil fans. This gave Hinsdale Central a commanding 5 1 lead that later turned into a 5 3 victory as the Devils stay hot approaching the Sectionals against Hinsdale South.
