Central’s bats come alive early.
Noth homers #8 while Fountas shuts the door
The Red Devil fire has ignited again and now is the perfect time to get hot. Coach Dorrance stated that when our team comes out scoring early, good things happen and victory can’t be denied. That was the case in the first regional game for the Red Devils who scored eight runs in the first two innings to take charge and defeat the Willowbrook Warriors 8 4. Anthony Fountas who was sharp in his 5 inning performance against Addison Trail came in the game in the third inning in relief of Nich Kurash and kept the Warrior hitters off balance. Fountas got some great defensive help by Tobi Adeyemi who made a diving grab in center field in the fifth inning along with Eric Wroble’s long run into foul territory to make a sliding catch of a fly ball. In the sixth inning with two Warriors on first and second, the next batter hit a ground ball to Drew Bailey who flipped to Andrew Nicholas for one out who then threw to first to double up the runner. Fountas struck out 3 batters and is hitting the spots just in time for the playoffs.
Offensively in the first inning, Tobi Adeyemi hit a slow roller up the middle of the diamond for a single. Next, Brett Suchy hit a solid single to left followed by Mark Noth who with a 1-2 count, drove the next pitch onto the maintenance garage roof to homer and score 3 runs. Brett Morse pounded out a triple and scored on Colin Cimala’s ground out.
The second inning started with Drew Bailey lining a double to the right centerfield gap followed by Andrew Nicholas who laid down a perfect bunt single to reach first base and move Bailey to third. With one out Suchy hit another single to drive in Bailey followed by Noth who was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Morse followed and on a 1 1 count hit a double down the right field line to score Nicholas and Suchy. Cimala drove in his second run with a fielder’s choice scoring Noth to establish and hold the 8 4 lead.
Hinsdale Central takes their momentum on to the regional championship, hosting Montini on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
