Kurash, Bellusci, Fountas put the Freeze on Oak Lawn
A cloudy cold start to the season ended in a shortened first game 2 - 1 victory. A combined no hitter by Nick Kurash and Anthony Fountas was an excellent indication for the strength of the Red Devils pitching staff. Kurash threw heat for 3 innings striking out 6 batters in his first win. Fountas threw 2 innings and was the victim of an unearned run but stayed the course and nailed down a save to seal the victory.
Defensively catcher Mark Noth made a great play in the 4th inning with a man on first and one out he pounced on a slow roller down the left infield line and threw out the batter to prevent momentum swinging to Oak Lawn.
Offensively the Devils were hitting the ball hard all game. In the first inning Tobi Adeyemi hit a line drive over the center fielders head for a double. In the fourth inning with a 0 2 count Noth hit a line drive over the left fielder’s head for a ground rule double. Brett Morse was walked along with Colin Cimala to load the bases. On a wild pitch Noth tried to score but was tagged out on a close play by the catcher. With two outs Alex Bellusci stepped to the plate and hit a looping drive down the right field line for a single that scored Morse and Cimala for a 2 0 lead. In the fifth inning Brett Suchy closed out the hits for the Devils with a single. |
