A two-day nail biter
Exciting baseball between York & Hinsdale was worth the 2 day trip to Elmhurst when the Red Devils finished off the Dukes with a 15 – 10 victory.

Anthony Fountas was the starting pitcher and threw 3 scoreless innings before getting roughed up in the 4th by yielding 5 runs. Pat Keiser replaced Fountas in the 4th and threw 3 innings, with 3 runs, giving way to Kevin Quirke, who threw 3 innings with 1 run. The game was suspended because of darkness with a 10 -10 tie. The following day, Charlie Thomas pitched the 10th and 11th innings allowing 0 runs and striking out 1 batter to get the victory.

The offensive output began in the second inning with Colin Cimala singling to left field.  Brett Suchy (HR, 2-2B, 1B, BB ) followed and on a 1 – 1 count, hit a home run over the left field fence scoring Cimala for a 2 – 0 lead. In the 3rd inning with one out, Mark Noth (HR, 2B, 2-1B ) reached second base on an error by the 3rd baseman. One out later Cimala was hit by a pitch and Suchy, swinging a hot bat, drove in Noth with a single giving the Devils a 3 – 0 lead.  In the 5th inning with the Devils trailing 5 – 3, Tobi Adeyemi lead off with a walk followed by Noth who reached 1st on a fielder’s choice. Brett Morse hit an infield single moving Noth to second.  Cimala reached base on an error by the pitcher who threw wildly to 3rd trying to take out Noth as the throw went down the left field line, scoring Noth and moving Morse to 3rd. Suchy, the hitting machine, hit a double scoring Morse and Cimala. Sam Katz hit a double to score Suchy followed by Drew Bailey who singled to close out the inning with the Devils ahead 7 – 5.   In the 6th inning Noth reached base for the 4th time with a double and Morse reached 1st on an error, followed by Cimala who launched a double to right center field which scored Noth and Morse. In the 8th inning Suchy reached 1st on a walk and moved to 3rd on an Alex Bellusci double, followed by Katz who hit a clutch infield hit to score Suchy with the 10th run to end Day 1 with a 10 – 10 tie.

On Wednesday, day 2, the Devils would not be denied.  They came alive in the 11th inning started by a Katz who was hit by a pitch and was followed by Bailey who’s sacrifice bunt moved Katz to 2nd. Andrew Nicholas walked, followed by Adeyemi who doubled, scoring Katz and Nicholas. Noth took a 1 – 1 pitch over the left center field fence for a home run scoring Adeyemi ahead of him. Morse continued the hit parade with a single and scored when Suchy doubled to complete the scoring and secure the 15 – 10 victory.
