Long layoff adds to Red Devils woes
A one week gap between games threw off the Red Devils rhythm as they lacked the punch against the Oak Park Huskies. They went toe to toe with Oak Park for the first two and a half innings with each team scoring 4 runs, but the Devils offensive momentum stalled while the Huskies scored 7 more runs in the last 4 innings to take a 1 0 lead in the 3 game series with an 11 5 win. Not typical, the ace of the staff, Kasey Ourada went 2 innings walking 6 batters and allowing 5 runs on 4 hits. Kevin Quirke came in the 3rd inning and pitched 3 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks. Will Lamb pitched 1 inning allowing 1 walk and no runs.
The offensive output started in the first inning when Andrew Nicholas hit a home run over the right field fence. In the 2nd inning Brett Morse lead off by getting hit by a pitch and advancing to 2nd on an errant pickoff attempt by the pitcher and went to 3rd on a ground out by Eric Wroble. Sam Katz then hit a deep fly ball to the right fielder to score Morse. In the third inning with two outs Brett Suchy walked and was followed by Mark Noth who blasted a home run over the right centerfield fence to score Suchy ahead of him. In the 7th inning Drew Bailey singled to lead off and was followed by Chris Leksas who drilled a ball over the right fielder’s head for a double with Bailey holding at 3rd. Nicholas then drove Bailey in on a ground out to the second baseman to end the scoring.
