First loss of the season stings!

It was a beautiful day for baseball, but the York Dukes rained on the Red Devils undefeated parade. Two innings were costly for the pitching staff which has been nothing but exemplary this season.  Nick Kurash struggled in the 3rd inning giving up 6 runs to put a small chink in his armor but not deep enough to keep him from being the warrior he will be for the remainder of the season.  Kevin Quirke came in and pitched the 4th and 5th innings with no problem but in the 6th after getting one out he walked a batter and gave up a single. Anthony Fountas came in to relieve after pitching a great game on Tuesday and was victimized by the first batter he faced who hit a home run. Two batters later Charlie Thomas came in and struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning, then closed out the 7th inning unblemished.

The offense got started in the 2nd inning when Mark Noth singled then advanced around the bases to score on Brett Morse’s single and an error by the right fielder. Brett ended up on 3rd base. Drew Bailey came to the plate with 2 outs and hit a double in the right centerfield gap to score Morse.  In the 3rd inning Andrew Nicholas coaxed a walk and was pushed to second on a Tobi Adeyemi single.  Brett Suchy moved the runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt and was followed by Noth who singled to score Nicholas and Adeyemi. Colin Cimala, walked then Morse singled to right loading the bases. Alex Bellusci came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Noth.  In the 5th inning Noth singled for the third time and was forced at second base on a Cimala ground ball. Morse’s infield single moved Cimala to second and scored on Bellusci’s single to close out the scoring in the 9 -6 defeat.
