In game
two of the doubleheader, the Red Devils bats awoke from their winter slumber in
a 14-7 slugfest for their first victory of the season. Richie Brennan provided a strong
complete game outing on the mound allowing only two earned runs while striking
out two over seven innings.
The
Devils jumped on WWS for three runs in the first inning. Mike Imke (3-6, 3 runs, 2 stolen bases)
led off with a sharp single and quickly stole second base. Matt Meyer (2-3, 2 runs, 2 walks) reached on a bunt single sending
Imke to third. After Meyer was
thrown out trying to steal second base, Grant Slesser (2-3, 3 runs, 3 RBI, 2
walks) walked and pinch runner Brock Piche stole second. Garrett Cook (2-4, 2 runs, 3 RBI)
followed with a single scoring Imke and Piche. After a Cook stolen base and an
infield out, Mike OÕReilly (2-5, 1 RBI) singled home Cook with the third
run. Hinsdale added two runs in
the second inning on a single by Imke, a walk to Meyer and a double by Slesser.
Wheaton
clawed back into the game by scoring two runs in the fifth and three runs in
the sixth. The Red Devils iced the
victory with help from some erratic Wheaton pitching by scoring seven runs on
only two hits in the seventh inning.
Jared White started the inning with a walk. Imke singled White to third and then stole second base. Meyer walked. After Slesser grounded into a force out, Cook and Brennan
pushed home runs with a walk and a hit by a pitch. Mike OÕReilly singled home a run and Troy Lang (1-2, 1 run,
1 stolen base) walked. After two wild
pitches, Brock PicheÕs sacrifice fly closed out the scoring.
The
SophomoreÕs resume play when they open West Suburban Silver Conference play
with a doubleheader at home versus Proviso West on Saturday April 1st.
