Perfection for Sophs!
On Thursday April 27 Matt Murray and the Hinsdale Sophomore team achieved perfection against Hinsdale South.  Murray retired all 15 batters he faced, striking out seven as the Red Devils crushed the revival Hornets 10-0, in a slaughter-rule shortened 5 inning game.  South’s closest chance at a base hit came on a slow roller to short in the 3rd inning.  A hard charging Zach Leathers made the play and kept the perfect game intact.

Richie Brennan (2-3, run, 2 RBI) started the six run second inning with a double to left center.  Brock Piche (2-3, run) followed with a bunt single.  Garrett Cook’s sacrifice fly to deep center scored Brennan and moved Piche to third.  After Piche scored on a wild pitch, Bill Auriemma (2-3, 2 runs, RBI) blasted a towering solo home run to centerfield.  Mike Imke (1-4, run) restarted the rally with a single to right field.  Jared White (3-4, 2 runs, RBI) followed with a sharp single.  After a  Leather’s walk, Grant Slesser (1-3, 3RBI) singled home two runs with Leathers moving to third.  Leathers scampered home after a wild pickoff throw deflected off him.

The Devils pushed across three more runs in the fourth.  Matt Murray started the inning with a sharp single to right field.  With one out, White singled and Leathers walked.  Slesser reached when the Hornet shortstop could not find the handle on a slow roller, scoring pinch runner Matt Meyer.  Richie Brennan scored two runs with a single to left field.

The Sophomore Red Devils resume play with a Saturday doubleheader at Downers Grove North.
