Brennan and Dahl combine to no-hit Addison Trail and lead the Sophomore Devils to 9-0 victory in their season finale. They finished the season strong by winning 8 of their last 10 games.
Richie Brennan pitched the first three innings, striking out five while walking two. Harrison Dahl hurled the final four innings striking out four to earn the victory. Outstanding defensive plays by shortstop Matt Meyer, second baseman Brock Piche and catcher Andrew Smiles helped preserve the no-hitter as the Devils played errorless ball.
Will Edwards (2-4, 2 runs, RBI) started Hinsdale’s first rally with two out in the second inning with a single to center. Troy Laing (2-2, 2 runs, 2 RBI) followed with a single, Edwards stopping at second. Edwards stole third and scored on a balk. After walks to Mike O’Reilly (0-0, BB, RBI) and Matt Meyer to load the bases, Laing scooted home on a passed ball for the second run of the inning.
The Devils put the game out of reach with five runs in the third. Jared White (1-2, run) led off the inning with a laser to the right center gap for a triple. He trotted home when Grant Slesser reached on an error. Brock Piche walked and Edwards singled, scoring pinch runner Matt Huber. Laing blasted a triple off the center field wall to score Piche and Edwards. Laing scored the fifth run in the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field by O’Reilly.
Bill Auriemma’s (1-1, run, RBI) long double in the seventh inning scored a streaking Brock Piche with their final run.
The Sophomores finished the season with an overall record of 16-14 and 11-7 in the tough West Suburban Silver Conference. |
