The Sophomore Devils dropped a 7-4 decision to the Willowbrook Warriors in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. Hinsdale could only manage 5 hits on a day with a strong wind blowing in from right field. The Devil’s offense finally broke through in the fifth inning. Richie Brennan (2-2, BB) led off with a sharp single to left. Jared White (1-2, run, BB) and Troy Laing followed with walks to load the bases. Mike Imke (1-4, run) forced Brennan at the plate before Matt Meyer grounded into a force play at second base scoring the first Devil run. Bill Auriemma (1-3, run, RBI) doubled scoring Laing for the second run.
In the seventh inning trailing 7-2, Hinsdale mounted a comeback. Imke led off with a single up the middle and stole second. After Meyer grounded out, Auriemma walked, stole second, and scored on Zach Leather’s ground out. Willowbrook closed out the game by retiring Grant Slesser on first base to pitcher put out.
In his first outing of the year, Zach Leathers pitched the complete game, giving up only five hits and two earned runs while striking out eight Warriors. Six walks and four errors sank the Red Devils. |
