Red Devil Sophs Can't Overcome Bad Start
The Red Devils dug themselves an early hole with some sloppy defense and lost to the Morton Mustangs 9-6 in a WSC crossover contest. Hinsdale committed five errors while giving up seven runs in the 2nd inning.
The Devils made it a contest in the bottom of the 2nd by scoring five runs. With one out, Brock Piche (2-4, run) singled to left and took second on an outfield error. Bill Auriemma (1-4, run, RBI) followed with a single scoring Piche. Auriemma moved to second on the left fielders second error. Garrett Cook’s (0-2, 2 runs, RBI) slow roller to shortstop was misplayed with Auriemma moving to third. Troy Laing (2-3, run, RBI) drove home Auriemma with a sharp single. Mike Imke (2-4, HR, 4 RBI) cleared the bases with a three run homer onto the building in left field.
In the fourth inning, trailing 8-5 Hinsdale scored their final run. With one out, Cook walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Lang singled Cook to third. With two outs, Imke recorded his fourth RBI of the game with an infield single.
Garrett Cook (5 innings, 1 run, 2 hits, 7K’s, 1 BB) pitched excellent in relief of starter Harrison Dahl. Cook allowed Morton only one run over the last five innings while striking out seven Mustangs. |
