Andrew quotes and notes:

Coach Frank Ganzer: "You got to give the kid (Kurash) credit. He pitched one hell of a ball game. He did a great job. He's got great velocity. He's got that slider that tight break on that thing that's hard to pick up. He took the bats out of our hands. We don't swing the bats all that bad and he dominated.

We lost to two pretty good teams, but we think we're good ourselves and we've got to beat those teams. We've got to get used to this. We're going to see a lot of #1's and #2's and not a lot of 4's and 5's. We've got to be ready. We've got to swing the bat."

Ganzer is taking it slow with Nate Everhart while he builds up arm strength after playing football and finishing 3rd at 215 pounds in the Class AA individual wrestling meet. Everhart pitched two perfect innings of relief in the fourth and fifth and recorded four strikeouts. He struck out in his only plate appearance.

Lefty Mike Kaczmarek sent Central back to the dugout three up and three down in the sixth with a strikeout … Andrew gave up three hits in the first, but none for the rest of the game. Starter Zach Baldacci (0-1) struck out six, walked two, and hit a batter … Kaczmarek robbed Central's Brett Morse of extra bases and a possible RBI with a back-to-the-infield grab in deep right in the third … Andrew's Joe Deceault is suspended for the first seven games for breaking a team rule … Andrew's other loss came to Minooka 3-2 in five innings.

Hinsdale Central quotes and notes:

Hinsdale Central pitcher Nick Kurash: "We play as a team; we play for each other. There are no selfish players on the team. Everyone's trying to get the runners over and help each other out during the game. We keep it positive in the dugout and focus on the game."

Hinsdale Central coach Tom Dorrance: "Nick was on today. Early in the game when he was throwing that sharp slider, it was in a tough place to hit; I don't care who it was. He's getting to be one of the best pitchers around. Andrew's got a good hitting team and you'd never guess that watching them today. He said he felt strong and I told him it was his game. As the seventh came around, I did not want to give up his great performance and throw it into the hands of somebody else."

Kurash improved to 2-0 with the 10-strikeout (6 looking), no-walk performance. For the season he's recorded 16 strikeouts with one walk, and no earned runs in 10 innings … The Red Devil defense backed up its pitcher with two double plays. The best started with a diving catch from senior center fielder Toby Adeyemi on Kaczmarek's shot to left center. Adeyemi, whose left shoulder popped out of its socket, flipped the ball to leftfielder Suchy, who threw the ball to shortstop Nicholas for the double play. Adeyemi lay on the field for several minutes after the play, but stayed in the game after they popped his shoulder back in place …Third baseman Alex Bellusci added a nice diving stop to rob Rossberg of a hit in the sixth … Adeyemi (hit by pitch) and Noth (single) got on base to set up the Red Devil runs.
