1. Joliet Catholic (14-3): Eleven stranded runners were Hilltoppers' undoing in a 6-5 opening loss to St. Viator. Joliet Catholic rebounded 8-2 in second game. Tony Testin (2 hits, 3 RBIs, John Ruettiger (2 hits, RBI) and Tom Zurliene (3-for-3) led offense. Steve Kazak (4-1) earned win.
2. St. Rita (17-1): Mustangs kept rolling with 15-3 5-inning win over Gordon Tech. St. Rita scored 11 runs in first. Steve Witczak batted twice in inning and swatted double and homer to have 3 RBIs. Ryan Rayhill
moved to 4-0 without allowing earned run. He struck out 9.
3. Hinsdale Central (16-): Mark Noth's 3-run homer in second inning accounted for winning runs in 6-3 opening-game win over Lyons. Starter Kasey Ourada got 3 double plays in last three innings to improve to 4-0. Devils dropped second game 14-2 in 5 innings.
4. Lyons (15-4): Outhitting Hinsdale Central 10-4 was no benefit to Lions in 6-3 loss in opener. LT evened up on day with a 14-2, 5-inning win in Game 2. Dan Weston improved to 5-0 on mound and went 3-for-6 on day with 3 RBIs. Grant Fillipitch hit 2-run homer in 3-for-6 day
5. Elk Grove (15-6): After hot start Grenadiers continued slide with 10-5 loss to Maine South. Designated hitter Jon Mueller had 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
6. Benet (13-5): Redwings split double-header with Notre Dame. Benet won first game 8-6 after Bryan Roberts' 2-run triple erased 6-5 7th-inning deficit. Matt Meckes (2-1) got win with 3 innings of relief. Notre Dame's Mike Kloss beat Benet ace Chris Pack 11-7 in nightcap. Pack added homer.
7. Marist (15-4): Redhawks swept St. Joseph 13-0 (5 inn.) and 13-5. Cory Kull (3-1) threw 1-hitter in opener. Tyler Newsome went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Joe Kentos (2-1) won second game with support from Matt Gorski, who had 2 doubles among his 3 hits and 2 RBIs.
8. Lake Zurich (13-6): Suffered 3rd straight loss after 6-4, 7-4 double dip at Warren. Jordin Hood went deep in opener and had 2 runs and 2 RBIs. John O'Brien went 4-for-8 on day.
9. Naperville Central (13-5): Snoozed way through 9-4 home loss to Lockport. Lou Johanns went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs. Mike Odenthal popped 2-run double in 5th. Sean Joyce added 2 hits.
10. Lockport (16-4): Posted second straight win over ranked team with 9-4 win at Naperville Central. Rich Forkin reached his first 3 plate appearances and scored twice. Sophomores Matt Denton (RBI double) and Michael Frigo (RBI triple) contributed to 12-hit attack.
