1. Joliet Catholic (11-1): The Hilltoppers split with Carmel. JCA dropped the first game 6-2 to Corsairs ace Matt Diedrich (3-0), who threw a 4-hit complete game. JCA fought back from a 5-3 deficit in the seventh to win the nightcap 8-5. Joe Benson hit a 2-RBI single on a 0-2 pitch with two outs to put the Hilltoppers in command.
2. St. Rita (13-1): The Mustangs spread the at bats around in a 12-0, 5-inning win over St. Francis de Sales. Sean Estand hit a two-run homer in his only official trip to the plate. Joe Dispensa (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI) and Julio Godinez (1-for-1, 2 RBI) chipped in in the rout.
3. Hinsdale Central (13-1): A charitable effort cost the Red Devils their first game of the season. York used five hit batters, eight walks, an error and Kevin Sullivan's 3-run homer for a 9-6 win. Central recovered 9-7 in the second game. Colin Cimala and Andrew Nicholas homered for the Devils.
4. Nazareth (14-1): The Roadrunners won their 14th straight with a 4-2 win over St. Viator. Giovanni Cantwell moved to 5-0 with a 8-strikeout complete game effort, and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer and two RBIs. Nazareth blew a 6-1 lead in the second game and fell 7-6.
5. Notre Dame (10-4): The defending East Suburban Catholic League champs began their '06 campaign in the cellar after a double dip to Marist (11-3). The Dons fought gave up four unearned runs in a 4-3 first game loss. Tim Sheehan had a 2 RBI single in the first game for the Dons. Chuck Creager and Rich Ruff had two hits apiece in the 6-2 second game loss.
6. Naperville Central (11-3): Left-hander Matt Barry pitched four scoreless innings to improve to 3-0 and Mike Odenthal knocked in three to propel Redhawks to a 6-1 victory over Barrington.
7. Lyons (12-3): It only took the Lions innings 10 innings to sweep Proviso West 15-1, 11-0. LT's hitting stars included Dan Weston (3-for-4, HR, 4 RBIs), Casey McMurray (3-for-5, 2 RBIs), Mike Bellisario (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Ed Viliunas (HR).
8. Oak Park (12-4): Neil Mejia improved to 3-1 in the Huskies 11-2 first game win over Downers Grove North. Andrew Hagins went 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs and David Studer went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. North won the second game 5-3.
9. Elk Grove (12-1): Will Osmanski started Wednesday and Thursday against Prospect-in the same game. After nine innings couldn't decide the outcome, the MSL East tilt was continued the next day with Osmanski reentered as the pitcher. He went the distance and improved to 5-0 in an 8-7, 12-inning win.
10. Benet (10-4): The Redwings swept past St, Joseph 8-3 and 9-0. Pitcher Chris Pack improved to 4-0 in the opener, going five innings and recording five strikeouts. Connor Powers hit his fifth homer of the year, a three-run shot, in support of second game winner Kevin Kulig (2-2).
