No. 5 Hinsdale Central's baseball team showed it had more bats and arms in a 10-9 win against host Morton on Thursday.
Down 8-2 after the third inning, the Red Devils (19-5) got going in the top of the fifth with Alex Bellusci's two-run single and Willie Lamb's RBI single.
In the sixth, Brett Morse had a two-run single with the bases loaded. Eric Wroble added a run-scoring double and Lamb an RBI single to tie the game at 9.
Morton (25-3) brought in Izzy Martinez, its third pitcher, in the seventh. Colin Cimala singled with one out, Morse cracked a double off the right-field wall and Wroble's sacrifice to center brought home Cimala with what proved to be the winning run.
Closer Charlie Thomas, the third Hinsdale Central pitcher, shut the door on Morton in the bottom of the inning.
"We didn't throw in the towel when we got down, and we could have,'' Hinsdale Central assistant coach Mark Wittkamper said.
"We kept plugging away, and I think [Morton] started to panic a bit. Charlie's been our guy all year, and he was great when we needed him.''
