BERDELLE CALMS, MORSE BOMBS
The Red Devils brought their bats when they traveled to Wheaton on a warm day with the wind blowing out. Rick Berdelle spun a complete game 4-hit masterpiece and gave up no earned runs as his high inside heat, curve ball and other assortment of junk danced out of the way of the Wheaton bats.

Hinsdale grabbed the lead when Connor Lind and Dustin Reznicek singled and scored on a Wheaton miscue and Colin Cook’s sac fly.

Dan Portschy drove in Rez in the third to extend the lead.  Brett Morse hit a towering wind blown ball into the high sky left field that dropped for a double and came home on Mark Noth’s 2 bagger.

Wheaton threatened to catch up  several times but Berdelle the  “ weaver” kept them in check until the Devils caught fire in the seventh.

Lind led off with a double and came home on Rez’s triple to the fence.  After Portschy walked, Colin Cook was intentionally walked bringing up a “disrespected” Morse who took his anger out by launching a long ball that looked like it might reach the sun while clearing the left field fence for the first bomb of the year.

The grand slam put the game out of reach and sent the Devils home dreaming of Cracker Barrel, paint and LT. The bats are alive as the Red Devils enter the conference season.
