Defense and Pitching Rules
In a complete game pitching performance, Doug Pilcher received terrific support from a flawless Red Devils’ defense that featured three double plays.  Pilcher helped himself by starting a 1-6-3 double play in the 1st.  The Devils’ slick DP combo of Connor Lind and Andrew Nicholas turned a standard 4-6-3 double play in the 4th and Garrett Sosnovich’s block of the plate resulted in a DP that prevented a score on a fly ball to Brett Morse who relayed to Colin Cook who fired home to get the out in the 5th.  Pilcher faced no more than four batters in any inning during his masterful performance.

The Devils’ offense used a “small ball” approach in this game as Lind walked to lead off the 1st and came around to score on a Morse single to center, a Lind groundout in the 2nd scored Mark Noth who started the inning with a triple and heads up running by speedy Mike Grzelakowski scored another solo run in the 3rd as he stole second and continued to third on an overthrow and then scored on another bad throw by the opposing catcher as the Devils continued to force the action.

In the 5th inning the Red Devils scored twice with one run coming across on a Dustin Reznicek single and Morse was hit by a pitch to bring home the second run.  The game ended with the Devils scoring five runs in their half of the 6th inning which featured hits by Cook (1B), Reznicek (2B), Sosnovich (1B), Morse (2B) and Dan Portschy (1B, 2 RBI).
