Big Performances by Binder and Portschy
This second game of the DH versus Downers North again featured outstanding starting pitching for the Red Devils as Eric Binder remained strong throughout the game with 7 strikeouts and only 2 walks. Binder continued to make big pitches when he needed to throughout the contest. Nick Kurash earned the save as he entered the game in relief of Binder with a man on in the 7th and retired the first three batters he faced to end the game.
Dan Portschy was the player of the game for the Red Devils as he turned in a dazzling display at third base with several key putouts. Portschy charged a hard bunt and made a great bare-handed pickup and strong throw across to get the runner in the 2nd, made two solid groundball putouts in the 3rd, and made a diving stop of a ball smoked down the third base line to prevent an extra base hit in the 5th.
Hinsdale did just enough offensively to get the win with 2 runs in the 4th just after Downers North had scored to take their only lead of the long day. A Garrett Sosnovich single, and Brett Morse walk was followed by a Portschy double to left center to score the only runs the Devils needed for the victory. Game photos
