MUSTANGS BUCK THE RED DEVILS
The visiting Morton Mustangs took advantage of several Hinsdale lapses to grab an early lead that they never relinquished.
After spotting Morton 5 in the first 2 innings, Hinsdale countered with one in the first when a singling Connor Lind came home on a Mark Nicholas sac fly.
Morton tacked on 3 more in the fourth. Hinsdale came to life in the fifth when a tripling Dustin Reznicek and a walking Chad Bisnette crossed home on another Nich sac fly and Dan Portschy’s double off the leftcenter wall. The Devils hit the ball hard but managed only 5 hits as 10 balls found outfielder’s gloves.
Starting pitcher Alex Bellusci and Drew Bailey pitched well but were victumized by early defensive lapses. The D stiffened when Kevin Quirke took the mound who closed the game with 2 shutout innings when Lind when slid deep in the hole to throw a runner out, and Tim Connelley turned a nifty double play courtesy of a Will Lamb stretch and scoop.
