Hinsdale Central JV’s Tame Tigers with Big 4th 

The Hinsdale Central JV Red Devils brought out the lumber in the 4th inning with a 9 run outburst turning the tide on the Wheaton – Warrenville South Tigers with a 12 – 6 victory. 

Andrew Nicholas started the game with a single then moved to second with a stolen base and proceeded to third on Drew Bailey’s fly ball to right and scored on a wild pitch.    

In the 4th inning Tim Connelly walked, followed by Bailey who walked. Will Lamb hit the gap in right center for a double scoring Connelly.  Charlie Thomas hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Bailey. Alex Bellusci singled to score Lamb and then Mike Grzelakowski kept the line moving with a single. Sam Katz singled up the middle scoring Bellusci, followed by Kevin Quirke who slapped a single that scored Grzelakowski. Nicholas then cleared the bases of Quirke and Katz with a triple to centerfield. Connelly and Bailey up for a second time in the inning drew walks again and Connelly scored when Lamb singled, closing out the inning with the Red Devils up 10 – 5. 

Connelly pitched the first 3 innings facing 17 batters striking out 4 and allowing 5 runs.  Bellusci pitched the 4th and 5th facing 8 batters striking out 4 and allowing 1 hit, no runs.  Dan Portschy pitched the 6th and 7th innings facing 8 batters striking out 2 allowing 1 run. 

The Red Devils struck for 2 more runs in the seventh.  Thomas reached base on an error and with hie quick speed, advanced around the bases and scored via passed balls and a wild pitch. Bellusci walked and advanced to third due to a passed ball and wild pitch and scored on Quirke’s single. 

Other offensive contributors were Tom Schultz who hit a sharp single in the center field gap and Anthony Fountas reached base on a walk.
